All students deserve the opportunity to interact, communicate, listen, and learn with and from their peers and their teacher. The OWL camera & speaker allows both hybrid and virtual students the ability to speak freely with everyone in the class without distraction such as a teacher repeating student responses into a speaker. The OWL has the capacity to show the teacher and my screen, the class as a whole, and follows the speaker to allow for a fully immersed learning experience.

Hornet Homeroom is designed to supplement school-based virtual learning, with no teachers or lessons provided onsite. Hornet Homeroom is designed to provide a safe and socially distanced setting for students in grades K-5 to access their online instruction while parents are at work. Homeroom staff will oversee the learning environment and ensure students are engaged in their online lessons

In alignment with the Districts DEI initiative, we are proposing this project to help build our diverse chapter book collection across the 2nd grade level at Woodland Meadows Elementary School. We believe that putting quality books in the hands of our young readers will not only provide a window into lives of characters who may be different than theirs, but also to provide mirrors for those students who are looking for characters to identify with. We feel that providing additional chapter books in sets will create small and large group conversations that are inclusive for all of our learners.

In a time of hybrid learning, our students at home and in school deserve the best classroom experience we can provide. With the Owl, our teachers can move around the room and provide the best experience for both. Also, students at home can more easily hear and see classmates, making many activities, Socratic seminars, and class discussions better for all.

Our mission is to change the culture of the Weight Room environment at Saline High School. We have a vision of a next generation learning space where students, athletes and individuals of any level can improve themselves in a state of the art Weight Room. Through equipment, technology and general space upgrades we will have the necessary structure to take our students and athletic programs to the next level. We want our students running into that weight room, understanding the foundations of exercise and willing to get better in an ultra competitive environment. We want our students to be proud of what they have, right here at Saline.

This project aims to increase engagement with and access to learning using UDL (Universal Design for Learning) and Alternative Access as aligned in the “technical integration” and 4C’s of the learner profile of Saline Area Schools and #SASCompass. An interactive Touch PC will allow students to gain greater learning experiences in a way that provides high levels of engagement, interaction, real world application, and differentiated communication opportunities within the life skills classroom. Access to this technology will increase student, peer, and staff exposure to project based learning, alternative access, and UDL across many subject areas and settings.

This request is for year 3 of a 3-year rollover grant. Our grant request this year is in the amount of $12,565. (There is a slight adjustment in the grant this year, due to restructuring costs from Franklin Covey, The Leader in Me program.) The Leader in Me is Stephen Covey’s whole school transformation process. It teaches twenty-first century leadership and life skills to students and creates a culture of student empowerment based on the idea that every child can be a leader.

With the addition of two garage doors to the science courtyard at the middle school last year, we want to now add some outdoor spaces for students to collaborate and complete classwork during the warmer months of the fall and spring. Students love opening the garage doors and working outside but right now, there is no outdoor furniture for our students to access deterring them from using the space to its full potential. With access to furniture, the outdoor space would be a welcoming place for the students and allow an excellent space for labs to also be implemented.

GEM Consulting will help us conduct an Equity Audit. By conducting a comprehensive Equity Audit, SAS will be able to set a baseline as to how we are doing in the area of supporting diversity, equity and inclusion for our District. From this information, we can set measurable target areas and develop the actions steps around these areas. Further, GEM can help provide support with student and parent groups throughout the Saline Area Schools. In addition, GEM can support the development of a more diverse curriculum within SAS.

The goal of this project is to increase staff and peers to feel comfortable communicating and engaging with a student who utilizes an Augmentative Assistive Communication (AAC) device.

a.) Grant funds will be used to purchase 3 IPads and an iPod. Proloquo2Go will be placed on the devices. The iPod will also have music on it so that students can practice commenting about music and youtube videos.
b)Monthly mini-presentations (10-15 minutes) will be held in 6th-grade homerooms/7th/8th-grade science/social studies room with AAC users to provide staff/students strategies/visuals/activities to engage. The IPads will be used to provide general education students to practice using the communication devices prior to engaging with the AAC students so that communication interactions will be more natural and engaging. Afterschool, monthly mini-presentation (10-15 minutes)will also be held for interested staff. Mini-presentations will contain information about strategies/activities including modeling, aided language stimulation, extension/expansion, utilizing visual supports, and recasts which are evidence-based strategies that facilitate learning for AAC learners.
