As Physical Educators, it’s our job to instill knowledge in our students that will last a lifetime. The knowledge they can take with them and use as they grow in their understanding of various fitness concepts and ideas. It’s important that our students have the confidence and ability to perform a variety of movements that they enjoy and can repeat. But also, that they acquire the desire to push their knowledge and abilities forward with a focused intent to pursue health and wellness for a lifetime. Our goals are bigger than just 1 trimester, our classroom goals are inherently learned over time so that our students may draw on their time in the Weight Room at Saline and share it with others. We truly believe this project is student-centered and delivers the necessary messages that are incredibly important in our classes every day at Saline High School.

Our project entails outfitting and upgrading a new space for the Hornet Hutch.

A Way to Wellness is designed to fund a proactive, differentiated approach to supporting student wellness during the pandemic and beyond. Funds awarded to this grant would be used to purchase 400 student licenses for MyLife, an online application that meets students where they are in their wellness journey using a series of reflections prompts and then differentiated exercises to walk students through mindfulness techniques and meditation practices.

The American dream game is about the inaccessibility of the American dream. This game will encourage participants to explore our complex society in someone else’s shoes. In the game participant can explore the bias, stereotype, discrimination, and general inequalities that attack the possibility of achievement of the American dream.

In a time of hybrid learning, our students at home and in school deserve the best classroom experience we can provide. With the Owl, our teachers can move around the room and provide the best experience for both. Also, students at home can more easily hear and see classmates, making many activities, Socratic seminars, and class discussions better for all.

This project aims to increase engagement with and access to learning using UDL (Universal Design for Learning) and Alternative Access as aligned in the “technical integration” and 4C’s of the learner profile of Saline Area Schools and #SASCompass. An interactive Touch PC will allow students to gain greater learning experiences in a way that provides high levels of engagement, interaction, real world application, and differentiated communication opportunities within the life skills classroom. Access to this technology will increase student, peer, and staff exposure to project based learning, alternative access, and UDL across many subject areas and settings.

In the fall of 2020 we as a PE staff were able to purchase eight sets of Power Block Dumbbells. It is our goal to finish this project with the purchase of four more sets which would allow each student “rack” in our classroom to have a set of these Dumbbells. Application and student learning will increase dramatically.

For our staff in Physical Education the completion of these sets becomes imperative with our beginning learners in the weight room, as well as our most advanced learners. Ultimately, the completion of this project would be a huge asset to our classroom.

iTrack is a cloud-based at-risk student management solution designed for schools to have a central location for all at-risk student data. It provides the tools to review attendance, grades, parent communication, etc. to help take steps to proactively intervene where students are struggling. iTrack helps to address problems while they are still solvable and initiate a student success plan to ensure no student is left behind.

Our mission is to change the culture of the Weight Room environment at Saline High School. We have a vision of a next generation learning space where students, athletes and individuals of any level can improve themselves in a state of the art Weight Room. Through equipment, technology and general space upgrades we will have the necessary structure to take our students and athletic programs to the next level. We want our students running into that weight room, understanding the foundations of exercise and willing to get better in an ultra competitive environment. We want our students to be proud of what they have, right here at Saline.

I’d like to purchase 10-15 budget 3D printers, that cost between $200 and $300 each, for my CTE classes to use for my curriculum as well as for the good of the school. When problems arise, 3D printing can really make a difference, and I’d like students and staff to be able to request help from my programs. With the pandemic, many problems arose where 3D printing could be used. I purchased a budget 3D printer last spring for around $200, and was able to print off 100 face mask buckles for our students and staff. I believe the quality of low cost 3D printers has really gone up. I also feel that we could potentially solve some problems that arise at SHS and the SWWC with this technology, but only if we have a large quantity of 3D printers instead of only one.
