That’s the motto for this year’s FSAS Strategic Grant Award supporting literacy. The Foundation has accept the challenge to raise $70,000 during the 20011-12 grant cycle to help build leveled reading libraries in classrooms across the district. The goal is to put more books than ever before into the hands of teachers and students to build the most literate community of learners possible.
Choice in reading materials is critical in keeping young learners engaged. Quality literacy libraries have both multiple copies of popular books along with a depth of titles that cover the varied interests that students bring with them to school. The “reader’s workshop” methodology involves teaching students explicit reading strategies and getting all students into books that are accessible to their particular reading level. Saline teachers will use this approach to improve reading proficiency, build literacy, and possibly kindle a love of reading that can last a lifetime.
Kid’s who read…succeed!
